World’s Largest Women in Tech Community to Receive Funding From Philanthropic Organization Started by Craigslist Creator

ATLANTA — September 8th, 2020Women Who Code (WWCode) is proud to announce that we are the recipient of a grant award from Craig Newmark Philanthropies. This generous funding will help us to continue our mission to inspire women to excel in technology careers. We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Craig Newmark and his organization for the trust and support they have shown for us.

One of the key focus areas of Craig Newmark Philanthropies is supporting women working in technology who might be denied equal access to opportunities. By partnering with Women Who Code, they are demonstrating their dedication to this cause and their willingness to work towards solutions.

In the last year, Women Who Code has been supporting the success of women+ in tech by rapidly pivoting our programming of more than 2,000 free, in-person events each year, to a fully remote, digital format. This is being done both to expand the reach of our community to every corner of the globe, and to ensure that diverse women in technology still have safe access to our technical and leadership programming in this critical time of COVID-19.

The funding provided by Craig Newmark Philanthropies will go towards helping us create access for our skilled borderless community to continue the technical and leadership training that supports their careers in the tech industry. It will also partially fund our Leadership Development Program, providing practice-based leadership opportunities and training to the volunteer WWCode leaders who then go on to create more equal access to opportunities within their companies and communities.

“We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Newmark and Craig Newmark Philanthropies,” said Alaina Percival, CEO of Women Who Code. “With their support, we will provide tools and development to directly help 925 talented engineers in our community to succeed and create a more equal tech industry.”
