The Importance of Women in Blockchain Becomes More Evident as Global Cryptocurrency Platform Partners with World’s Largest Women in Tech Organization
ATLANTA — AUGUST 25TH, 2021 — The Algorand Foundation, a leader in Future of Finance blockchain technology, has awarded a grant for $150,000 to Women Who Code (WWCode), the largest and most active nonprofit dedicated to supporting the success of women in technology. Through this partnership, WWCode will strengthen its core technology education and leadership development programming, as well as its BlockChain deep learning Track Community.
The Algorand Foundation’s partnership with Women Who Code will help the nonprofit organization to continue serving its 290,000 members with over 1,800 free technical education events each year. They will also be supporting the Women Who Code Blockchain Track, a deep learning community with 1,000 current participants who explore advanced topics and interact with leaders in the field.
“In partnering with Women Who Code, the Algorand Foundation is demonstrating their dedication to seeing a future where diverse women play a central role in the development and use of blockchain technologies,” said WWCode CEO Alaina Percival. “With the support of allies like them, we will continue to educate and elevate our members so that they can be and become leaders in every area of technology.”
The crypto market is valued at over $2 trillion, however, women only make up 14.5% of blockchain team members, 7% of blockchain executives, and 15% of traders. However, those numbers are rising, and many organizations are starting to take notice of the potential impact that could be made by women as both users and developers of this growing technology.
“We believe that blockchain technology can only reach its true potential when women are equally represented at every level and are fully invested in this technology,” said a spokesperson for the Algorand Foundation. “Our support for Women Who Code is an investment in the future that will see innovation grow thanks to the power of diverse teams.”
